What do you say when your 13 year old wants to go skydiving?
That is exactly what was at the top of our daughter’s Christmas list!
Are you kidding me? Skydiving…really?
She may drive me crazy at times but I love her and refuse to let her jump out of an airplane at 13 years old!
After discussing gifts with my husband I came up with an idea! I contacted Flyaway Indoor Skydiving in Pigeon Forge, TN. They were gracious enough to provide us with free flight passes and a video so we would be able to show all of our readers our experience!
We packed up Haylee and her best friend and headed up to Pigeon Forge on New Year’s Eve and went straight to Flyaway Indoor Skydiving! The staff was so friendly when we walked in the door. That goes a long way when you have two teenage girls that aren’t quite sure what to expect from this experience.

We checked in and went upstairs to wait for the training class to start. We had to sit through the class with them and sign the waivers because they are minors.
They played a video that instructed the girls on safety and hand signals. It demonstrated things like how to curl into the fetal position to fall onto the protective pads on the side of the wind tunnel, the hand signal to straighten or bend your legs as well as the hand signal for relax and arch your back.
Then it was time to get in their gear!
That was quite the process!
First they had to make sure they took off all jewelry and get into a jumpsuit. You have to wear lace up athletic shoes that can be tightened so they don’t fly off.
They do offer loaner tennis shoes if you show up in flip flops.
Then the girls had to put in ear plugs and wear goggles to shield them from the noise and force of air in the wind tunnel. They also had them put on gloves to protect their hands. The last step to getting ready was putting on the helmet.
Here they are ready to skydive!
After entering the wind tunnel and going through a little more instructions they were ready to skydive!
Tyler did a great job making sure the girls had fun and were confident in their ability to use the hand signals and let him know if they were uncomfortable at any point. He would give them a thumbs up when their turn was over to ask if they were okay and they were to do a thumbs up if all was good.
Check out this clip of the video that Flyaway Indoor Skydiving provided! You can see the entire video on our Youtube channel!
This is what you look like after you’ve spent some time in a wind tunnel!
Tip: Braid your child’s hair and try to stick it in the helmet! Getting out the tangles was absolutely no fun whatsoever!
I highly recommend visiting Flyaway Indoor Skydiving if you have adrenaline junkie children like these! The girls had such a great time and the staff were so knowledgeable and friendly that it put us at ease as well.
Where To Stay
If you’re not close enough to do this in one day and are looking for a hotel in Pigeon Forge we recommend the Courtyard by Marriott. We have stayed in multiple hotels in Pigeon Forge as this is a close weekend getaway for us and our favorite by far is this Marriott.
It’s also worth mentioning that it is only 2 miles from Flyaway Indoor Skydiving! It is in a great location!
We are huge fans of the Marriott Rewards program. We actually used points to pay for this stay. If you’re interested in applying for a Marriott Rewards credit card to earn points towards free stays you can do that here!
This is one of our favorite Marriott resorts because we love the lagoon style pool during the summer months and get to enjoy the indoor pool and outdoor hot tub during the winter months.
This year the girls decided to enjoy the outdoor pool in the winter as well! They had their own polar plunge on Facebook Live!
This hotel is also located diagonally across the street from The Island. The Island is a large entertainment complex with several restaurants, rides, games, and specialty shops. They also have a venue for live music and events which brings me to my next point about this hotel.
If you are here on New Year’s Eve you can use the window at the end of your hallway to watch the fireworks show. It was 14 degrees and snowing so we were grateful to be inside and warm! Just look towards the ferris wheel and wait for midnight!
Pigeon Forge is full of great activities! We’d love to hear some that you’ve tried and think we may enjoy! Just comment below and let us know!
