We are very fortunate to live in the Upstate of South Carolina. We are in close proximity to the mountains and the beach which gives us the flexibility to take day trips or long weekends several times a year.
For the times when we decide to hang out around home, we have Greenville which is one of the greatest towns in the Southeast with an incredible restaurant scene, beautiful hotels, gorgeous scenery and wonderful event venues!

What To Do In Greenville, SC
This past weekend we had the pleasure of attending Cirque Du Soleil Crystal at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena! I feel like a lot of times it is difficult to find entertainment that is appropriate for the entire family but with “The Well” so close to home we never have that issue! They are known for hosting concerts, hockey games, comedians, monster truck rallies, wrestling matches, Disney on Ice and so many other family friendly events! Here is a link to their schedule. If you are considering a trip to Greenville, SC anytime soon check out the calendar!
We didn’t have time to squeeze in a Cirque Du Soleil show last time we were in Las Vegas so we were thrilled to hear that they were bringing a show to Greenville. We took our 14 year old daughter along with her best friend and they were as in awe of the performance as we were! The fact that the show used more modern music from artists like Sia, Beyonce and U2 also helped to draw us all in! The synchronization and choreography of the ice skaters and acrobats was truly amazing! Seeing all of this art in motion at such an amazing venue was a treat for our whole family!
Where To Stay In Greenville, SC
While in town to see Crystal we stayed at the Hyatt Regency Greenville and loved it! We have very high standards for hotels. My mother actually calls us “hotel snobs” and I am not offended by that at all! We prefer to stay in hotels that offer exceptional cleanliness, great amenities, restaurants on site, great central location and business areas. I have to say that the Hyatt checked all of these boxes!
It is a beautiful hotel that has a fantastic courtyard area right on Main Street! It has a Starbuck’s in the lobby and Kilwins Chocolates right outside the front door!
When you walk into the lobby you immediately see the beauty of this downtown hotel. There are fountains with lush greenery throughout. There are also several seating areas with televisions and a business center in the lobby with PCs and Macs available to use. I think this may be the first hotel where I have ever seen Macs available for use in the business center!
You can have a seat at the oval shaped bar or walk down to the lower level lounge with big screen televisions and watch a ball game. There are also several seating areas in the lobby with televisions in the headrests which are perfect for relaxing after checkout if you aren’t quite ready to leave.
The Hyatt has recently undergone room renovations and I could not be more pleased with the results! The rooms are very well decorated with modern furnishings and bright crisp colors in grey, white and yellow. It is a very minimalist look that feels fresh and clean!
Are you ready for the best part? There is no carpet! This is the first hotel that we have stayed at to do this and I think it is a brilliant idea! We do not walk barefoot in hotel rooms because I don’t think it is possible to really get the carpets as clean I would like them to be. Also, the wood look of the floor really adds to the upscale look and sets it apart from other hotels!
They’ve also added 70-inch flatscreen televisions that extend out from the wall and swivel left or right. This is a feature that we appreciate because I usually go to sleep while Lewis prefers to stay up and watch TV. This way he can turn it towards the sitting area and I don’t have to deal with as much light while I am trying to fall asleep.
The prints of downtown are a nice touch as well! Falls Park and Liberty Bridge are very popular attractions in Greenville.
There is an outdoor pool area on the 3rd floor that is great for relaxing after a long day of sightseeing. I love that they have added artificial turf to make it feel more like a natural outdoor setting.
What To Eat In Greenville, SC
Roost is there in house restaurant and it offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. We chose the breakfast buffet because we love variety and it did not disappoint! There are potatoes, grits, bacon, biscuits and gravy, pastries, fruit, yogurt and granola! They even give you a card to fill out for a made-to-order omelet!
If you can plan to be there on a Sunday for brunch you can experience breakfast and lunch! That’s on our to-do list now!
